Now in its 5th edition, this is a standard text on commercial banking in the United States. It walks readers through all aspects of banking: financial statements, ALM, derivatives, the investment function, liquidity and reserve management, deposits, lending, branches, mergers and acquisitions, and much more. I like the book because it is depth is uncommon for such a broad overview. Rose understands his subject at a very practical level. He offers a wealth of insights. I highly recommend the book as a comprehensive overview for people new to commercial banking or as a practical reference for anyone with banking experience.
